Stapleton (403) 256-0659 Cell (403) 689-0659 E-mailPEACE RIVER ARCHBasement Geology: The Peace River anticline has been a disappointing target for oil and gas exploration since its discovery. Most large discoveries were made in reef structures and margins of the continental Precambrian Peace River Arch, in offshore sedimentary systems. Few drill holes penetrated to the Precambrian but accumulated information suggests a failed rift. Dawson Creek Graben or Fort St. John collapse system is part of complex regional structure. Most successful oil & gas exploration is in reservoirs formed by in-fill sediments trapped in basins formed of grabens and half-grabens. (reference page) DIAMOND EXPLORATIONBasement Structure: In the 90s diamond exploration geologists carried forward with information accumulated by the soft rock geologists who mapped Peace River Arch uplift and collapse. Crustal structure interpretation based on gravity, magnetic and deep penetrating seismic surveys, basement rock dating and geochemistry provided a picture of the history of the Arch. Comparison of billion-year old sub-craton fabric in diamond producing regions of the world were compared to Alberta, B.C. and Saskatchewan basement fabric. Diamond and kimberlite-type host rocks discoveries in NWT, SK and Alberta were a surprise to some geologists. Tectonics and fault patterns suggest an active Peace River Arch history. Proposals have been made that seven fault/basin creating events occurred. There are likely more oil and gas trapping mechanisms around the Peace River Arch than previously thought. (reference page) Volcanic EventsThere is a preponderance of bentonitic soils, tuffs and ash layers in various locations in the Peace River District. ARRIBA ExplorationArriba and predecessor companies explored the Peace River Arch, the Peace River Channel and tributaries for seven years and discovered:
TUL Petroleums Ltd. submitted reports the Alberta Geological Survey entitled; Ashes of the Peace River District, Lamprophyres of the Peace River District and Diamond Indicator Minerals of the Peace River District. Conclusions of our exploration were:
REPORTS & REFERENCESTUL Petroleums: discovered and mapped Peace River Ashes, we named the Whitestone Marker, in the Peace River Channel, Montney River to Many Islands (1997) (AGS MIN_1997006 Report); and Explored under the title Peace Diamond Project, an assessment of 500,000 acres of metallic and industrial minerals in the Clear Hills region of Alberta. We proposed the West Peace Diamond Indicator Mineral Trend (1999) using photo interpretation, magnetometer surveys, diamond indicator minerals and ash analysis. Contact: jim@landandminerals.com
